Connect to Wifi via your QR code?

In the hospitality industry, putting up signs with the name and password of a Wifi network, or asking the Wifi to staff is slowly becoming redundant. The solution? Connecting to a Wifi network using a QR code. It is easy, quick, and safe! In this blog it will become clear, how you generate these QR codes, and why you cannot fall behind.

In short

  • Wifi QR codes allow easy and secure connection to a Wifi network by scanning the QR code.
  • To generate a Wifi QR code, provide network name, security type, and password, then download the QR code.
  • It is safe, easy and quick!

How does a Wifi QR code work?

A Wifi QR code contains all information you normally need to connect to the Wifi network.

The information can be interpreted by a phone when you scan the QR code. The phone will ask the person scanning the QR code via a pop-up, whether they want to connect to the Wifi network.

After that, your phone automatically connects to the Wifi network. So, you only have to point your camera towards the QR code, and you are connected to Wifi.

How do I generate this QR code?

At this moment, it is only possible to generate a static Wifi QR code. To do this, you’ll just have to follow these steps:

  1. Select the option ‘Wifi’ at Free QR Code.
  2. Enter the network name, the security type, and the password of the Wifi network. This can be found on the router.
  3. You can customize the QR code if you want to.
  4. Click on the ‘save’ button to download the QR code!

  • It’s safe;
  • The amount of users of the Wifi network can be measured easily;
  • It is very quick;
  • It is easier than typing in everything yourself;
  • Next to Wifi, the creator of the QR codes can use QR codes to direct customers to other information via QR codes.

FAQ

All data entered when the static QR code was created is coded into the static QR code; it is in the pattern of the ‘blocks’. This means it can’t be edited after it was created, and that the QR code isn’t saved on any server. Read more to see how a static QR code works, and what the difference is compared to a dynamic one.

With a dynamic (link blog statdyn) this is shown on the main screen after you’ve logged into your account. Next to each QR code you can see the number of scans, and you can view a graph with more information by clicking on the graph icon. With static QR codes it is harder to track scans, and you can only do it if the static QR code links to your own website. Click here to see how to track QR code scans for both static and dynamic QR codes. (link blog track scans)

A QR-code is actually just a few ‘blocks’ on a background. So it matters if the page where the QR-code leads to is safe. To protect your online safety, the advice still is: pay attention! Read our blogpost about the prevention of QR code fraud here.

This is very easy with our QR code generator, and works as follows:

  1. You can choose if you want a static or a dynamic QR-code;
  2. You can enter the necessary details; eg. a URL;
  3. You can optionally even customize the QR-code, like with your own logo;
  4. Is this all a little too complex? Click here for an easy, step-by-step explanation on how to create a QR-code.
