What is a GS1 Digital Link?
GS1 Digital Link combines a product’s barcode number and a web link in one QR code — so a single code works at the checkout and for your customers.
In short
- Encodes a product GTIN inside a structured web URL
- One code replaces the barcode and a marketing QR
- Point-of-sale systems read the GTIN; phones open the web page
- Ideal for packaging, traceability and product information
How it works
A GS1 Digital Link stores your product’s GTIN (the number under a barcode) inside a standardised web address. A retail scanner extracts the GTIN to ring up the product, while a phone camera opens the linked web page — ingredients, manuals, promotions or authenticity checks. One code, two audiences.

Why it matters
Brands no longer need separate codes for the checkout and for consumers. A single GS1 code on the packaging handles point-of-sale, supply-chain traceability and a rich customer experience — the direction global retail is moving toward.
